NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY DAY

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Yenepoya Dental College celebrated National Public Health Dentistry Day on 20th June 2025, with a series of academic and student-centered activities held virtually over two days.
The program commenced with a formal inaugural function graced by distinguished dignitaries. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. M B Aswath Narayanan, President of the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD), and Head of the Department and Professor at Tamil Nadu Government Dental College (TNGDC). His insightful address highlighted the growing relevance of public health dentistry in the current healthcare scenario and the importance of innovation in oral health outreach and education.
Dr. Ridhima Gaunkar, Honorary General Secretary of IAPHD, was invited as the Guest of Honor. She emphasized the need for skill-based training to empower future public health dentists. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Laxmikant Chatra, Principal, Yenepoya Dental College. He appreciated the department's efforts in organizing such impactful events and encouraged students to take active roles in oral health promotion initiatives.
Competitions and Academic Activities:Following the inauguration, a National-Level Virtual Health Talk Competition was conducted on the same day (20th June 2025) for undergraduate students, providing a platform to articulate key public health messages related to oral health. A total of 64 participants from various colleges took part in the event, demonstrating impressive creativity, communication, and research skills through their presentations. The participants were grouped into multiple sessions, with each session evaluated by expert judges invited from reputed institutions, ensuring a fair and insightful assessment of their performances.
On 21st June 2025, a National-Level Virtual Pedagogy Competition was organized for postgraduate students from dental colleges across the country. The event received a total of 55 registrations. Participants were grouped into multiple sessions, each evaluated by a panel of expert judges invited from reputed institutions, ensuring a comprehensive and fair assessment.
The prizes were announced separately for each session to recognize and encourage excellence. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation, interactive judging sessions and active engagement from faculty and students.
