The science and technology in dentistry has been evolving at a rapid pace in the recent years, and this has led to inclusion of newer treatment modalities. Implant Dentistry is one such area that has evolved as a specialization in the recent past. It has become one of the most sort after treatment options across the world after porcelain veneers. This demand for rehabilitation using oral implants is due to the increased awareness of the population about this treatment modality and confidence the practitioner has gained over a period of time about the predictable success rate of this treatment option. The incorporation of newer treatment concepts has led to a demand within the dental profession to seek and obtain advanced education, experience and improve their competencies.

Yenepoya Dental College has been a front runner in recognizing the potential of this treatment modality and establishing this as a Interdisciplinary specialization The Centre for Oral Implantology was setup in the year 2007 with a primary objective to provide a common platform for the three specialization namely Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Oral Maxillo Facial surgery to fulfil the need for interdisciplinary approach in providing advance education on this specific competency, and also provide a comprehensive treatment to patients in need of prosthetic rehabilitation.

COURSES OFFRERED

OBJECTIVES OF CENTRE OF ORAL IMPLANTOLOGY

Define and provide the competencies to an undergraduate or a beginner specialist that is necessary for entry into the dental profession with a proficiency in Oral Implantology.
To plan and increase the competency level in a beginner as well as an advanced learner by providing additional advance level courses.
To provide a multidisciplinary platform for the management of patient’s wide variety of edentulous situations
To plan and provide prosthetic rehabilitation to patients with advance treatment needs.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

A well-trained and committed workforce at the centre manages the growing needs for dental services, enabling the centre to fulfil its objectives of providing advanced oral health care to its patients and training professionals in these advanced modalities.
