Activities Undertaken As Part Of World No Tobacco Day Observance
The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Dr. Prashanth Shenoy. It was then formally inaugurated by the Principal of Yenepoya Dental College, Dr. Laxmikanth Chatra, who highlighted the significance of observing World No Tobacco Day. Dr Rachana Prabhu In- charge TCC proposed the vote of thanks. The Pledge Wall got significant participation, raising awareness about tobacco's harms. The Department of Public Health Dentistry earned recognition for 100% attendance, with approximately 250 individuals signing the pledge for a healthier future.
Undergraduate students led the Pledge for a Tobacco-Free Tomorrow, a collective oath to abstain from tobacco and advocate for its cessation. Around 100 students committed to this cause.
An Awareness Talk by Dr. Nimmi educating 100 students on tobacco's ill effects on general and oral health, highlighting dental professionals' role. Dr. Jaya followed with a practical cessation counselling session, equipping future dentists with vital skills. Dr. Catherine conducted Combating Tobacco: Knowledge Check, an interactive quiz for 100 3rd-year BDS students. The quiz reinforced understanding of health risks and cessation strategies, with prizes awarded for active participation.
Finally, Tobacco Cessation Awareness and Counselling was extended to outpatients of Oral Medicine and Radiology, providing crucial information and support to those in need. These comprehensive initiatives underscore Yenepoya Dental College's dedication to a tobacco-free community.
