Department of Periodontology, Yenepoya Dental College is part of an Awareness drive "Say no to bleeding gums- A
Pink Health Initiative" spanning over 50 days from 1st February,2024
to 20th March 2024 in association with Indian Society of
Periodontology as a Nationwide campaign.
On 8th March which is celebrated as International Women's
day, Department of Periodontology conducted an awareness and screening program
of women's oral health in association with Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Yenepoya Medical College. This program was inaugurated by Dr.
Rajesh K.S., Professor and Head Dept of Periodontology, Dr. Sham S. Bhat, Dean,
Faculty of Dentistry, and the Dr. Rajalaxmi, Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and
Gynecology along with the staff and postgraduates from the Department of
Periodontology. An overview of the Program was given a Dr. Vinita Boloor. Dr.
Sham S. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry briefed the audience on having a
continuing collaboration with Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yenepoya
Medical College , such that we can educate a larger number of women with
regards to their oral health. Dr Rajalaxmi, Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and
Gynecology also reinforced to all the patients present about the importance of
the periodontal health during the pregnancy stages. Oral hygiene kits were
distributed by the dignitaries to all the patients present during this event.
The inauguration was followed with an Awareness talk on the
importance of women's oral health which was delivered by Dr. Chinmay Ajila in
kannada and Dr. Sunaina Abdulla in Malayalam. Oral Screening was conducted for
all the patients reporting to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient clinic
as well women non teaching staff of the Yenepoya Medical College. All the
screened women were given oral hygiene kits and oral hygiene instruction
pamphlets. The screened women were directed to visit the Yenepoya Dental
College for definitive treatment. The entire program spanned over 2 hours from 9.30
am - 12.00 noon. A total of 54 women were educated and screened. The program
was coordinated by Dr. Anupama Rao and Dr. Vinita Boloor.
The Program concluded at 12 noon.
