Pixels to Prostheses: Digitalising Maxillofacial Prosthodontics

The Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, Yenepoya Dental College, organized a two-day Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program titled "Pixels to Prostheses: Digitalising Maxillofacial Prosthodontics" on the 7th and 8th of November 2025. The program aimed to explore the evolving role of digital technologies in the field of maxillofacial prosthodontics, with a focus on enhancing precision, efficiency, and aesthetic outcomes through digital workflows.

50 Post graduate students from various dental colleges had registered for the Lecture and Workshop. All the PGs assembled at the YDC auditorium at 8 .30 am. The PGs and the guests then proceeded to the inaugural ceremony. During the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Rajesh Shetty (HoD department of Prosthodontics) Welcomed the gathering. The ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. B. H. Sripathi Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), who commended the department's initiative in bringing together clinical expertise and technological innovation. The event was presided over by Dr.LaxmikanthChatra, Principal, Yenepoya Dental College, who highlighted the importance of embracing digital advancements in dental education and clinical practice.Dr.Karkala Sayed Suhaim (Adnl Professor) delivered the Vote of thanks. To conclude the inauguration ceremony, the gathering joined together in singing "VandeMataram" to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of India's National Song. The rendition filled the auditorium with a sense of pride and unity, reminding everyone of the song's historical and cultural significance. The program concluded with the National anthem.

The scientific sessions were led by eminent speakers and experts in the field, Dr. Manju V, MDS, PhD, Professor and Head, Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology, Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, Head & Neck Institute, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and Dr. Abhishek N, MDS, Consultant Prosthodontist and Implantologist, Founder and CEO, Team V-Invent, VaatsalyaInventuresPvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

The two-day program comprised a series of lectures and hands-on workshops designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of digital workflows in maxillofacial prosthodontics.

Day 1 began with sessions on Prosthetic Rehabilitation Following Extensive Maxillomandibular Ablations and Prosthetic Management of Extraoral Defects by Dr. Manju V, followed by a lecture on Innovations and 3D Printing in Dentistry by Dr. Abhishek Nagaraj. The afternoon sessions featured practical demonstrations and participant-led training on digital design workflows and 3D printing software conducted by Team V-Invent.

Day 2 focused on advanced digital applications in clinical practice, including MFP case scenarios, CBCT-based data acquisition, and digital model creation. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering digital designing, silicon characterization, and prosthesis fabrication using 3D printed models and moulds.

The program witnessed active participation from faculty members, postgraduate students, and clinicians from various institutions. Participants had the opportunity to experience digital prosthesis design and fabrication first-hand, gaining practical insights into digital dentistry's growing impact on maxillofacial rehabilitation.

At the conclusion of the CDE program, "Pixels to Prostheses: Digitalising Maxillofacial Prosthodontics," feedback form was shared with the participants. In a nutshell the feed back received was very good and a resounding success, bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern digital technology. It reinforced the institution's commitment to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration in dental education and research.
