The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Yenepoya Dental College, in collaboration with the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI), organized the first session of the Yencourage Webinar Series titled "Opportunities, Innovations & Start-ups in Maxillofacial Surgery." The series aims to inspire young dental and maxillofacial surgeons to explore avenues beyond clinical practice, including innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. B.H. Sripathi Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), followed by remarks by Dr. Vivekanand Kattimani, Chair, AOMSI Research Committee. Dr. Manikandhan R, President, and Dr. S. Girish Rao, General Secretary, AOMSI, delivered inspiring messages emphasizing collaboration and innovation in surgical practice.
The scientific session began with Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Vice-Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), who shared insights on fostering translational research and institutional innovation. This was followed by Dr. Paul C. Salins, Managing Director and Vice President, Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center, Bengaluru, who spoke on clinical innovation and biomedical entrepreneurship.
Dr. Jagadish Chandra, Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, proposed the vote of thanks. The program was compèred by Dr. Varsha Upadya. The session concluded with an interactive session with the attendees nationwide. A total of 210 delegates participated in the program. Feedback was taken and e-certificates were provided.
The webinar successfully achieved its objective of motivating young dental and maxillofacial surgeons to pursue innovation, research, and entrepreneurship alongside clinical practice. The interactive discussions provided valuable insights into translational research and biomedical innovation, inspiring participants to explore start-up opportunities within the surgical field. The facilities of the Yenepoya Incubation Centre were highlighted.
This event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting innovation, research, and knowledge-sharing among healthcare professionals.
