Launch of YenQuit - Tobacco Cessation Web Application

The Department of Public Health Dentistry organized a special program on the occasion of World Oral Health Day with a focus on promoting preventive oral healthcare and tobacco cessation. The primary objectives of the program were to create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco on oral and general health, introduce the YenQuit Web Application as a digital cessation tool, support tobacco control initiatives at institutional and community levels, and align with global goals such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 - Good Health & Well-being and SDG 17 - Partnerships).
The event began with an invocation, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Rekha P. Shenoy. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the formal inauguration. Dr. Imran Pasha M delivered the opening remarks, where he highlighted the need for tobacco cessation interventions and introduced the YenQuit Web Application, emphasizing its role in behavioral change and digital health promotion.
The key highlight of the program was the official launch of the YenQuit Tobacco Cessation Web Application. This platform is designed to provide structured, evidence-based support for individuals attempting to quit tobacco through digital engagement and guided interventions. The Chief Guest, Dr. K.S. Gangadhara Somayaji, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) appreciated the initiative and stressed the importance of integrating technology into healthcare to improve public health outcomes.
The program concluded with the Presidential Address by Dr. Laxmikanth Chatra, Principal, Yenepoya Dental College followed by the National Anthem.
The outcomes of the program were significant. It led to the successful launch of a digital tobacco cessation platform for institutional use, enhanced awareness among students and faculty about tobacco cessation strategies, and reinforced the institution's commitment to preventive dentistry and public health. Additionally, the initiative promoted interdisciplinary collaboration and encouraged the adoption of digital health solutions.
